The Weather in Bahamas - Caribbean
There's an interesting aspect to Bahamas weather which occurs nearly every year during the northern hemisphere's summer and autumn. You may be surprised to learn that dust plumes originating from North Africa impact the Caribbeans during these months. Even though the Caribbean islands are in the tropics, it doesn't mean that the temperatures don't fluctuate throughout the Caribbean over the course of a year. The Bahamas weather certainly can feel quite cool in the winter months, particularly in the northern parts as well in the mountainous regions. December is a popular month for travelers to visit The Bahamas, many escaping chilly conditions back home to come to beautiful mild weather with temperatures remaining in the upper-70s. Rainfall is at a yearly low in December so vacationers will have plenty of sunny tropical weather to enjoy.

The sunny skies and warm weather in the Bahamas makes this chain of Caribbean islands a popular vacation destination. However the Bahamas weather can be a treat for travelers. Although the chain is made up of more than 700 low-lying islands stretching from just east of Florida down into the Caribbean, most of the islands have very similar climates. The Bahamas weather temperatures are moderated by the warm waters of the Gulf Stream. Additionally, because the Bahamas are closer to continental North America - and thus more easily effected by North American cold air systems - they are slightly cooler than other Caribbean islands.

Although the Bahamas is located in the hurricane belt that lies across most of the Caribbean, many storms bypass the island chain and instead circle below it before heading north toward the United States. Of course, the islands are equipped to respond to a storm if one does hit. The Gulf Stream and Trade Winds help to maintain even temperatures throughout the year, ranging from 20 to 30 degrees C during the day and 17 to 21 degrees C at night. Sea temperatures range between 23 degrees C in February and 28 degrees C in August.
There are two seasons: summer which is from May thru September and winter which is from October thru April. A Bahamian winter is usually the equivalent of summer at Lake Tahoe.
